Pitch it, Loyno! Students compete for cash prizes in inaugural entrepreneur competition
January 24, 2014
Pitch Loyola, a competition that will put Loyola University New Orleans students’ entrepreneurial skills to the test for cash prizes, is set for Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Miller Hall, room 114. It is free and open to the public, and food will be provided.
Pitch Loyola is the first event spearheaded by the Loyola University New Orleans Entrepreneurship Association, founded and chartered just last semester. The mission of the club is to create a social setting for current and past student entrepreneurs to network and share skills and experiences.
In the competition, students will pitch original business ideas or pitch their existing business models to a panel of three judges. Students will compete in two rounds for the top three prizes of $100, $200 and $500. The crowd favorite will also receive a $200 prize.
Founding president and economics major, senior Sean Rowland worked with junior Garrett Hoffman in getting the Entrepreneurship Association off the ground. They outlined plans, wrote a constitution, recruited members and earned an organizational charter from the Student Government Association.
“I have a profound passion for entrepreneurship, and I have also noticed students at Loyola from every college have a general interest in entrepreneurship. We wanted to give these students a way to connect and make the process of starting businesses easier and more proactive,” Rowland said.
Sponsorships are available for $250. Each sponsoring organization will receive a mention in the event pamphlet as well as the opportunity to display a banner at the competition.
For any questions, comments or to be a sponsor, please contact Rowland.
