Loyola hosts local human trafficking author and journalist

October 11, 2013

The Loyola University New Orleans Modern Slavery Research Project is hosting New Orleans-based journalist Stephanie Hepburn, author of “Human Trafficking Around the World: Hidden in Plain Sight.” The free, public event set for Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. features a Q-and-A session. Hepburn’s books are also available for sale at the event, courtesy of Octavia Books.

Held in the Octavia Room located in the Danna Student Center on the university’s main campus, the event is co-sponsored by the New Orleans Human Trafficking Working Group.

Hepburn studied sex trafficking, forced labor, organ trafficking and sex tourism across 24 nations for her book. In it, she combines statistics with intimate accounts and interviews with survivors, including their lives before and after their experiences with trafficking. The book also offers a look into the activities of traffickers before and after capture and sentencing.
