Alumna creates viral online video responding to new NFL bag rules
August 23, 2013
Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communication alumna Lauren LaBorde ‘09 and fellow standup comedian Colleen Allerton poked fun at the NFL’s new, stricter bag policy this week in a satirical video posted online. The viral video, featured on MSNBC, The Today Show and in The New York Times as well as other national media outlets, has garnered more than 376,000 views on YouTube as of this week.
Claiming “my purse, my choice,” the video mocks the new NFL bag policy, which bans shoulder bags, backpacks, briefcases, fanny packs, camera bags and the like. The policy, established after the Boston Marathon bombings in April, allows fans to take only small purses and handbags; small, clear plastic or vinyl bags; and one-gallon plastic freezer bags into football stadiums.
The spoof also ignited a fake social media movement online, #MyPurseMyChoice.
