Loyola hosts New Orleans Piano Institute and Keyboard Festival

July 19, 2013

Loyola University New Orleans will host classical pianists from across the globe for the 2013 New Orleans Piano Institute and Keyboard Festival July 22-28. The weeklong festival is a series of masterclasses, lectures and recitals presented by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans. All competition rounds, masterclasses and lectures are free and open to the public.

The series will take place in the Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola’s main campus. These events mark the 32nd anniversary of the New Orleans Keyboard Festival and the 14th anniversary of the New Orleans Piano Institute.

The festival includes the Inaugural Solo Piano Competition July 22-23. Limited exclusively to pianists participating in the Piano Institute, Division 1 of the competition is for musicians ages 16 and younger; Division 2 is for musicians 17 and older. Each competitor will perform twice, and first and second place winners will receive cash prizes.

The week’s events also include an annual concerto competition, sponsored by the Steinway Society of New Orleans and Hall Piano Company, set for Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. The winner will have the opportunity to perform with the New Orleans Civic Symphony and receive an honorarium of $500.

The closing weekend will feature three recitals with former gold medalists of MASNO’s International Piano Competition:

  • Friday, July 26, 7 p.m., Igor Resnianski (1996);
  • Saturday, July 27, 7 p.m., Dustin Gledhill (2006);
  • Sunday, July 28, 2 p.m., Spencer Myer (2008).

Tickets for individual recitals are $20 for adults and $5 for students. Ticket packages for all three recitals are $50 for adults and $10 for students.
