Law alumnus receives national 40 under 40 distinction
July 12, 2013
Loyola University New Orleans College of Law alumnus Carlos Leach, J.D. ‘01, has been named one of the "Nation's Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers under 40." Leach, 37, will be recognized at the National Bar Association’s 88th annual convention July 27 in Miami, Fla.
The Nation’s Best Advocates is a collaborative effort from IMPACT and the National Bar Association to highlight young lawyers well on their way to becoming the next generation of leaders. The list recognizes individuals age 40 and under within the African-American legal community who have achieved prominence and distinction, professionally and philanthropically. Nominees were chosen based on their achievement, innovation, vision, leadership and legal community involvement.
Leach is a partner of the national law firm, Morgan & Morgan, P.A. and has practiced in its Orlando, Fla., office since 2006. Leach is an employment attorney whose practice focuses on wage and hour litigation. During the last six years, he has successfully litigated hundreds of wage and hour cases on behalf of employees in venues all across the country. He has already been appointed lead class counsel in more than 20 class action lawsuits. In 2012 alone, Leach was successful in recovering nearly $13 million in three large class action settlements where employees were wrongfully misclassified as exempt from overtime.
In addition to his practice, Leach devotes his time to assisting indigent citizens in matters such as wage theft, overtime, discrimination, wrongful termination and other employment issues. Recently, he was named “Orange County Pro Bono Champion” by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida for the second year in a row. He also serves on the board of the Central Florida Magic, a nationally ranked youth basketball team that he sponsors.
