Student journalists, PR staff named finalists for press club awards

Loyola University New Orleans student journalists of The Maroon newspaper along with the university’s public relations and marketing staff are finalists for five categories in annual awards presented by the Press Club of New Orleans. Two Loyola representatives will also serve on the Press Club’s board: Director of Public Affairs and External Relations Meredith Hartley was named as a public relations board member, and journalism instructor and Student Media Adviser Michael Giusti ‘00, M.B.A. ‘12 was named a journalism education board member.

Student journalists of The Maroon are finalists in three categories, including Precious Esie in the Print Infographics category, Sydney Barbier in the Cartoon category and Daniel Quick in the Print Editorial category.

The work of the Office of Marketing + Communications garnered nominations in two categories. Loyola’s Centennial Celebration was named a finalist in the Public Relations Campaign category, and the university’s 100 Days of Giving fundraising campaign received a nod in the Public Relations Social Media category.

The winning awards will be announced in a ceremony on Saturday, July 20 at The Theatre in Harrah's Casino. WDSU anchor and past Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Norman Robinson will host the event, which will recognize new Lifetime Achievement Award winners Bob Breck and Bill Curl. Jerry Romig will also be honored for 50 years of service. Tickets are $70, include a buffet and complimentary wine and beer, and can be purchased online through July 12 at www.pressclubneworleans.org.
