NBC's 'Today' co-anchor Hoda Kotb coming to Loyola

April 5, 2013

NBC’s “Today” co-anchor and former WWL-TV anchor Hoda Kotb will bring her signature wit to share her journalism experiences and advice with Loyola University New Orleans students April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Studio A of the Communications/Music Complex. The event is hosted by Loyola’s student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and is only open to those with a Loyola, Xavier or Tulane student ID.

“She is personally one of my journalism idols,” said Hannah Iannazzo, Loyola Society of Professional Journalists chapter president. Iannazzo actually met Kotb at a New Orleans signing for her new book, “Ten Years Later,” and invited her to Loyola to speak to fellow students. Iannazzo was thrilled when Kotb said yes and confirmed her interest later via Twitter.

Kotb hosts alongside Kathie Lee Gifford during the fourth hour of the “Today” show. She has also worked as a Dateline NBC correspondent and is bestselling author of “Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee.”

As a journalist, Kotb has covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the war in Iraq, the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, the War on Terror in Afghanistan, the effects of the 2004 tsunami and moving human interest stories from war-torn Burma. In fact, Kotb interviewed Aung San Suu Kyi, an internationally recognized leader of Burma. That interview represented the first American television network interview with Suu Kyi in 11 years.
