Inspirational speaker talks about 'Finding Purpose in Your Passion'

The Office of Co-Curricular Programs at Loyola University New Orleans presents a free lecture by award-winning political strategist, women’s activist and lifestyle expert Valeisha Butterfield-Jones. Her talk, “Finding Purpose In Your Passion,” takes place Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Audubon Room located on the second floor of the Danna Student Center. It is open to the public.
The interactive discussion will explore how Butterfield-Jones progressed from a small town in North Carolina and followed her passion to become the inspirational woman she is today. She is the co-founder and chair of the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network and the CEO of The Butterfield Group, LLC.
She has been recognized by Essence, Ebony and JET Magazines, The Business Insider and TheRoot.com as a leading executive in the U.S., and she was profiled by Glamour magazine, USA Today, ABC News, NBC News, Lucky Magazine, BET Networks, AOL’s Black Voices, Black Enterprise, Sister 2 Sister magazine and more.
Butterfield-Jones began her career as an unpaid intern for music mogul Russell Simmons and worked her way up the ranks, becoming the executive director of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, a nonprofit coalition of hip hop artists and entertainment industry leaders who believe hip-hop is an agent for positive social change.
In 2007, she co-founded the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network, a global coalition of women and men committed to supporting, promoting and defending the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society.
She’s married to NBA veteran Dahntay Jones of the Dallas Mavericks and is the daughter of U.S. Congressman G. K. Butterfield and North Carolina state Rep. Jean Farmer Butterfield.
