Loyola Theatre premieres new musical by Ricky Graham

February 1, 2013

Celebrated playwright and New Orleans native Ricky Graham will present the world premiere of his musical, “The Money Box,” at Loyola University New Orleans in March. The production features music by Loyola alumnus Jefferson Turner ’99 and lyrics by Graham and Sean Patterson.

Presented by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, this exciting adaptation of Moliere’s “The Miser” will run in Marquette Theater March 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m., March 10 at 6 p.m. and March and 17 at 2 p.m.

Set in New Orleans in the 1960s, Graham’s adaptation of Moliere’s classic satire tells the story of Midas Harpagon, the notoriously stingy owner of the Bourbon Street club, The Money Box, and his vivacious children. In their longing to escape the control of their father and marry the lovers of their choice, the children wonder, “Will love or the love of money prevail?”
