Moot Court team headed to national championships

The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law Moot Court Team won first place in the National Moot Court Competition Region VII Regional Rounds, earning the team a spot in the nationals in New York City Jan. 28-31.

Loyola law students on the team included oralists Kate Cazayoux and Camille Bryant, brief writer Marc Mandich and coach Alex Rossi. Loyola College of Law professor Monica Hof Wallace, J.D. ’98, served as the faculty advisor.

The Region VII rounds were held at the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center Nov. 7-9. Loyola prevailed in oral argument rounds against Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, University of Alabama and Faulkner University Jones School of Law. The team defeated LSU Law Center in the final round, where they were named regional champions. The team’s brief was awarded Best Brief in the region and Cazayoux was named Best Oralist in the final round.

The judges of the final round were the Hon. James Brady of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, the Hon. Kay Bates and the Hon. Bill Morvant of the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge.

The National Moot Court Competition is sponsored by the New York City Bar Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is one of the largest moot court competitions in the United States, with more than 150 law schools competing in the regional rounds.
