Music faculty speak at international music conference

Loyola University New Orleans professor Janna Saslaw, Ph.D., current vice president of the Society for Music Theory, and dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts Donald Boomgaarden, Ph.D., will speak at the 2012 conference of the American Musicological Society, Society for Music Theory and Society for Ethnomusicology, held Nov. 1-4 in downtown New Orleans.

Saslaw will serve as a discussion leader for the Society for Music Theory jazz interest group meeting, and Boomgaarden will chair a session for the American Musicological Society. The conference features scholarly presentations, concerts and a lecture/recital featuring 18th century music from the Ursuline convent.

Loyola music history faculty Alice Clark, Ph.D., and Valerie Goertzen, Ph.D., served on the local arrangements committee for the American Musicological Society.
