Montage Series features inaugural James Carter String Quartet performance
October 5, 2012
In their inaugural concert on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Hall, the James Carter String Quartet will perform Mozart's “String Quartet in D Major, KV 575” and Brahms’ “String Quartet in B flat Major, Op. 67.” Performers include faculty members Rachel Jordan, violin; Bruce Owen, viola; Allen Nisbet, cello; and Amy Thiaville, violin.
The event is free and open to the public, and a complimentary pre-performance wine and cheese reception, sponsored by the Loyola Alumni Association, will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby outside of Roussel Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun Street.
Carter has always been an avid supporter of the arts, particularly of Loyola’s College of Music and Fine Arts. During his tenure as university president, Carter was an outspoken proponent of arts education, and demonstrated time and time again his commitment to Loyola’s unique tradition of excellence in this field. It was under his leadership that the College of Music and Fine Arts was able to increase the number and size of scholarships to attract new students and gain additional funds to enhance its programs.
“Fr. Carter has, and continues to be, one of the most effective and valued friends of the college; his presence at our events and close relationship with our community of patrons has been invaluable and is much appreciated. His ongoing dedication to the arts at Loyola has been essential to our continued success,” said Allen Nisbet, cellist and associate professor of music. “Our award-winning faculty string quartet bears his name proudly, and we are grateful for all that he continues to do.”
Free parking is available in the West Road Garage located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.
