Jazz Underground Series continues with pianist Jeff Gardner

The Jazz Underground Series at Loyola University New Orleans will continue with pianist Jeff Gardner on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Satchmo’s, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center on the university’s main campus.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Loyola faculty and staff, and free for Loyola students. Tickets are available online at www.montage.loyno.edu or by calling 504-865-2074 and will also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance.

A New York native, Gardner has appeared as a solo artist or leader at major festivals throughout the world. A versatile musician, equally at home with jazz, new music and Brazilian sounds, Gardner recently wrote and performed his first piano concerto in Sao Caetano do Sul, Brazil. In addition, he has performed with such musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Gary Peacock, Norma Winstone, Eddie Harris, Steve Lacy, Freddie Hubbard, Rick Margitza, Nelson Veras and Slide Hampton, among others.

Active in jazz education, Gardner has taught at New York University and given workshops around the world. He is the author of the major reference work “Jazz Piano: Creative Concepts and Technique,” as well as “Jeff Gardnerʼs Blues Book” and “Easy Jazz Preludes.” He has also published articles on jazz and Brazilian music in Keyboard Magazine.

Free parking for the event is available in the West Road Garage, located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.
