In a continued celebration of the centennial at Loyola University New Orleans, the award-winning Irish author, Claire Keegan ’92, will present a reading of her work on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Whitney Room of Thomas Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Keegan’s debut collection of stories, “Antarctica,” was published to great critical acclaim in 1999, and subsequently was named a Los Angeles Times Best Book. Her second collection, “Walk the Blue Fields,” was published in 2007, followed in 2009 by her novella, “Foster,” which won the Davy Byrnes Irish Writing Award.

Keegan’s stories have won many other awards, including the Hugh Leonard Bursary, the Macaulay Fellowship, the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, the Martin Healy Prize, the Olive Cook Award, the Kilkenny Prize and the Tom Gallon Award. She is also a two-time recipient of the Francis MacManus Award.

After completing her undergraduate degree at Loyola, Keegan went on to earn a Master of Arts from the University of Wales and a Master of Philosophy from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

In addition to the public reading, Keegan will meet with creative writing faculty and students. This event is sponsored by the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences and the Walker Percy Center for Writing and Publishing.
