August 10, 2012
Melanie McKay, Ph.D, vice provost for faculty affairs at Loyola University New Orleans, and Brad Petitfils, Ph.D., instructor of psychology at Loyola, recently represented the university at the 25th annual International Conference on the First-Year Experience in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The conference, which draws delegates from a number of different countries and is co-hosted by a team of higher education institutions from across the globe, aims to assist educators and administrators in institutions of higher education in the planning, implementing and refining of programs designed to enhance the first-year experience.
McKay presented a paper on faculty development for successful first-year seminars, and Petitfils addressed various ways to engage first-year students in critical thinking through complicated conversations.
