Business professor accepts world-class fellowship, professorship
May 18, 2012
International academic accolades are nothing new to Loyola University New Orleans College of Business professor Lee J. Yao, Ph.D. The Joseph A. Butt, S.J. Distinguished Professor in Accounting and Marquette Faculty Fellow is considered one of the preeminent researchers in his field and has recently accepted an honorary professorship at his alma mater of Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia, as well as a visiting fellowship at the prestigious Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, U.K.
“Both of these exceptional universities are some of the most highly regarded in the world,” Yao said. “Becoming an honorary professor at Deakin is a very high honor, considering most of the academics that teach in Australia will never become full professors during their whole career. Wolfson has a reputation as a leading academic research institution and is part of Cambridge, which is ranked as the No. 1 university in the world, according to U.S. News and World Report.”
As a result of the Wolfson fellowship, Yao will spend next summer in Cambridge working with faculty and other fellows on an elite research project focusing on entrepreneurial finance.
“It is an advantage for them to have me associated with this project because of my research ability and research standing,” Yao said. “Also, having access to some of the best research facilities in the world is an advantage to me because when I publish some of my findings, Wolfson will be cited as a research and possible funding source.”
According to Yao, the Deakin honorary professorship is extremely advantageous because it provides access to state-of-the-art research facilities and also associates him and Loyola University with one of the top business programs in the world.
