Packport program awarded Ignatian Medal for Outstanding Campus Program
April 27, 2012
The Packport program, developed in the Office of Residential Life and the Office of Student Affairs at Loyola University New Orleans, recently received the Ignatian Medal for Outstanding Campus Program in Jesuit Student Affairs at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators conference in Phoenix, Ariz.
Packport was developed to provide meaningful programming focused on the engagement and transition of first-year students at Loyola. The Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators selects award recipients annually, and this year only four programs were selected from among 50 applicants. JASPA recognizes student affairs departments that use programs and services as tools to meet students’ needs, and to resolve conditions on campus which impede the educational process.
In 2011-12, the inaugural year, Packport featured more than 100 program offerings during the first six weeks of classes, including topics and events such as budgeting in college, staying well in residence halls, attending athletic events, engaging in the Newly Roomie Game, as well as numerous late night and weekend activities. Packport was created in the spirit of Jesuit education and focuses on giving students the opportunity to develop as whole persons. In an effort to increase student retention and facilitate a successful first-year transition at Loyola, Packport will continue to be a signature piece to the first-year experience.
