Loyola to host Heartland Delta board meeting
April 20, 2012
Forty representatives, including four Jesuit provincials and six Jesuit university presidents from 12 Jesuit universities and colleges, will travel to Loyola University New Orleans on April 22 – 23 for the annual Heartland Delta board meeting. University President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D., will host the conference.
The Heartland Delta network is a consortium of the 12 colleges and universities from the midwest and south, designed to foster Ignatian spirituality and values that root Jesuit higher education, with a special concern for lay-Jesuit cooperation and mutual leadership. The governing board of the conference is made up of the provincial and the presidents, mission and ministry officers and Jesuit community rectors.
Heartland Delta annually sponsors a faculty conversations program, in which select faculty of the 12 Jesuit universities meet around a common theme. The last faculty conference was held at Loyola Chicago in February and centered on the theme “Jesuit, Catholic and Green.” Loyola University New Orleans had four faculty members attend the conference.
As a part of Loyola’s ongoing centennial celebration, the university will also host the faculty conversations event on February 22-24, 2013 with the theme of “Eloquencia Perfecta,” the Jesuit commitment to fostering the ability to use speech and writing effectively, logically, gracefully, persuasively and responsibly.
Every three years, a larger Heartland Delta conference of faculty and staff is held for member colleges and universities. The next Heartland Delta conference is scheduled to be held at St. Louis University in May 2014.
