National magazine editor speaks at School of Mass Communication
March 16, 2012
Jerry Sealy, creative director for the print and digital tablet editions of National Geographic Traveler in Washington, D.C., will present a lecture on how to successfully design effective iPad applications for online media publications. The talk, presented by the School of Mass Communication and the Society of Professional Journalists, will take place on Monday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Maroon offices, located in the Communications/Music complex on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun Street. The talk is free and open to the public.
"The Maroon is pushing forward into digital media with our mobile app, social media presence and Internet products, so it will be wonderful to have such a great expert from such a well-regarded national publication share his insights,” said Mike Giusti 00’, journalism instructor and Loyola’s student media adviser. “It is terrific that the Society of Professional Journalists is doing so much to bring Mr. Sealy in. The students will benefit so much from his expertise."
Sealy has enjoyed a successful career in editorial design for more than 30 years. He has produced award-winning work for national consumer magazines, websites, daily newspapers, and has launched redesigns and new identities for dozens of specialty publications. His work has been honored by the Society of Publication Designers, AIGA, Print Magazine, Communications Arts, the Lowell Thomas Awards and Folio Magazine.
Prior to his arrival at the National Geographic Traveler, he was senior art director at U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, he has held design and art director positions at The Baltimore Sun, The Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine and The Plain Dealer Magazine in Cleveland, Ohio.
