Loyola takes gold, silver at ADDY Awards
March 2, 2012
Loyola University New Orleans had another strong showing at the New Orleans ADDY Awards, which recognizes excellence in advertising, during the New Orleans Advertising Club’s local chapter awards gala, held Feb. 25 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Several School of Mass Communication students and recent graduates took home top honors. Advertising junior Virginia Peters-Rodbell won gold for her digital illustration titled "Decadence," while senior Erica Guastella won silver with her poster titled "The Misanthrope."
The student-created advertising team, Rebirth Advertising, also struck gold on Saturday night, taking the top spots in the Magazine Campaign and TV Spot categories, as well as winning Student Best in Show for their campaign, “Let Life Be Your Runway: Runway Moments.” Members of Rebirth Advertising are: Alan Hill, Alonzo Andara, Jennifer Booth ’11, Mara Webster, Vikoria Wiberg ’11, William J. Bickle, Eddie Schneider, Kylie Tregre, Victor Holcombe, Michael Caruso ’11, Michael LaRocca, Mark Clayton, Mallory Asp ’11, Kristen Diaz and Alexandra Ernst ’11.
“The ADDYs are a culmination of hard work from a lot of people. I am so excited that our ad team has continued the tradition of past teams,” said Yolanda Cal, Ph.D., team adviser and advertising sequence head. “We hardly have time to celebrate because we are gearing up for this year's National Student Advertising Competition, where this winning work originated.”
“We are extremely proud of all of our students and recent graduates. To win one Gold Addy is very impressive, but to be recognized several different times and to be named Best in Show is absolutely outstanding,” said School of Mass Communication Director Sonya Duhé, Ph.D. “It shows that Loyola has the quality students, faculty and curriculum that allow our graduates to enter the competitive field of advertising and immediately meet the standards needed in the industry.”
The American Advertising Federation Student ADDY Awards Competition is a part of the national program designed specifically for college students. First-place winners at the local level now advance to regional judging.
