Visual arts professor is visiting artist at Valencia College
January 13, 2012
Loyola University New Orleans visual arts professor Barbara Brainard will be featured as a visiting artist when she presents her exhibit, “A New Orleans Portfolio: Works by Barbara Brainard,” at an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Anita S. Wooten Gallery at Valencia College in Orlando, Fla. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, runs until March 9.
Brainard employs traditional drawing and printmaking techniques based on digital photography to create monotypes that invoke a temporal quality in interpreting an urban evolution. Her art is grounded in a growing trend within drawing of translating images from photo-based media, often concentrating on instances of social and political transformation.
Locally, Brainard will participate in the group exhibit, ARTNOW: “Landscape, Seascape, Cityscape,” at an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Contemporary Arts Center.
