Entergy Charitable Foundation awards grant to support environment program

October 28, 2011

Entergy Charitable Foundation has awarded Loyola University New Orleans a gift of $100,000 for projects related to the school’s new Program in the Environment. Loyola is one of more than 50 nonprofit groups selected to receive funding from the foundation.

“This gift enhances Loyola’s capacity to contribute significantly to the development of this program and to improve the experience for our students,” said Jo Ann Cruz, Ph.D., dean of Loyola’s College of Humanities and Natural Sciences.

Specifically, the gift will fund an ongoing Gulf Coast wetlands research project conducted by faculty-led student groups within the Department of Biological Sciences. It will also allow Loyola to add an expert in environmental Geographic Imaging Systems to the faculty to teach new courses in spring 2012. In addition, the grant will support the acquisition of subscriptions, periodicals and books relative to the environment for the J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library.

The Entergy Charitable Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation wholly funded by Entergy Corporation shareholders. The goal of the foundation is to support initiatives that help create and sustain thriving communities. The Entergy Charitable Foundation has a special focus on low-income initiatives as well as educational and literacy programs and efforts to protect the environment.
