October 7, 2011
Former Loyola University New Orleans Board of Trustees member and Loyola College of Music and Fine Arts alumnus Anthony Laciura ’74 will perform a leading role in the New Orleans Opera Association’s upcoming production of “Turandot” on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. in the New Orleans Theater at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Laciura has been cast as Emperor Altoum in Giacomo Puccini’s final masterpiece, the legendary fable of the blood-thirsty Chinese princess, Turandot.
A New Orleans native, Laciura is a retired comprimario tenor for The Metropolitan Opera who currently stars alongside Steve Buscemi in the critically-acclaimed, multi-award winning HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”
In addition to his role on “Boardwalk,” Laciura runs a private studio in Teaneck, N.J., grooming aspiring opera singers, many of whom are already making a living performing at the Met and various opera venues throughout the country. He is also the director of opera workshop and applied voice professor in the William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences at New Jersey City University. He has directed productions at Phoenix Opera, Di Capo Opera, and New Jersey City University, and continues to appear in opera productions.
He has been nominated as Entertainer of the Year by the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce and recently finished playing the role of Frank the Barber in “Crackers,” an independent short film due to hit the festival circuit this fall.
