Author Laura Dodd offers advice on finding your dream job
September 23, 2011
On Tuesday, Sept. 27, Loyola University New Orleans will host New Orleans native Laura Dodd, author of “Dig this Gig — Find Your Dream Job or Invent It!”
Dodd will discuss her book, which was created for and by 20-somethings who were ready to claim (or start) their ideal job. The book features an array of dynamic young people — from genetics counselors to adventure guides to food bloggers — and gathers their firsthand views of entirely new fields taking off because of technological, demographic, and cultural shifts.
The event is open to Loyola University students, faculty and staff and takes place Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Danna Student Center’s Audubon Room. Refreshments will be provided and a book signing will immediately follow the discussion. The event is sponsored by the Career Development Center and is an official PACKPort event, programming designed to ease the transition into life and learning at Loyola.
If you can’t make the Tuesday night event, Dodd will also be a guest of the Music Industries Forum on Monday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium, which will be webcast. To access the webcast, visit http://www.cfmae.org/webchannel/.
Dodd, a New Orleans native, received her graduate degree from Columbia University's School of Journalism and her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Before moving to New York, she lived in Los Angeles for six years working in television and film production. After watching scores of young adults struggle with the loaded question, "What do you want to do?" she set out to provide a text, offering honest insight - good and bad - about what jobs are really like.
