In observance of the sixth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the continued renewal of the city since the storm, Loyola University New Orleans will host a day of volunteer service in the community on Thursday, Aug. 25. Faculty and staff are invited to be a part of the continued resurrection of New Orleans on this important anniversary of hope and remembrance, by joining members of the Class of 2015 for the Into the Streets day of service, a traditional part of WolfPack Welcome orientation activities.
With prior approval from a supervisor, liberal leave will be granted to all employees participating in Into the Streets on Aug. 25. To volunteer, simply email Josh Daly at email@example.com with your name, campus department, contact information (email and phone number) and t-shirt size no later than Monday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. so that University Ministry can plan accordingly for lunch and transportation. Liberal leave will be granted only for those able to participate in the volunteer service opportunities. Those not participating must report to work as usual.
All participants must check in starting at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Charles Room to complete a mandatory liability waiver form and be assigned a work site. A light continental breakfast will be served. Closed-toe shoes must be worn with appropriate work clothes. A service day t-shirt will be provided to all volunteers. Buses will depart campus from Freret Street at 9:30 a.m. after a brief welcome and opening prayer service in the Residential Quad at 9:20. Lunch and post-reflection will be provided at the work sites. Buses will leave the work sites at 4:30 p.m. to return to campus.
Contact Josh Daly at ext. 7921 or Ebonie Williams at ext. 2588 with any questions.
