Loyola's School of Nursing among the nation's best

April 29, 2011

Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as having one of the nation’s top nursing graduate programs. Loyola placed in the top 30 percent of the 467 nursing schools examined by the publication, ranking ahead of many publically-funded universities such as Louisiana State Health Sciences Center.

“This great recognition is a testament to the tremendous work done by our faculty and staff,” said Ann H. Cary, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., A-CCC, director of the School of Nursing at Loyola. “What is most gratifying is that this ranking was done by our peers and is a clear reflection of the respect they have for Loyola’s School of Nursing.”

According to U.S. News & World Report, graduate degree programs in nursing were assessed based on a peer survey of deans, other administrators, and/or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. This is U.S. News’ first ranking of graduate nursing programs in four years.

“Based on federal government forecasts, the demand for jobs in the healthcare industry is expected to grow in the coming decade,” said Brian Kelly, editor of U.S. News. “The new and updated Best Nursing Schools rankings guide will serve as an essential resource for anyone considering professional development in this arena.”

The School of Nursing at Loyola University New Orleans has both master’s and doctoral graduate programs enrolling over 500 students annually who complete their graduate degrees online.
