John Besh judges the battle during Loyola's Iron Chef 2011
April 1, 2011
Student cooking teams from southeastern Louisiana will return to Loyola University New Orleans to battle it out during the 2011 Iron Chef competition on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Danna Student Center’s St. Charles Room. The free event is open to the public and presented by the Loyola Asian Student Organization and sponsored by TABASCO®.
Celebrity chef John Besh will return this year as a guest judge for the competition. Besh, owner of six restaurants in Louisiana, including Domenica and Restaurant August, is a past Food Network Iron Chef competitor and winner of the 2006 James Beard Award for Best Chef of the Southeast.
Competitors this year include teams from the Loyola Black Student Union, LASO, Loyola Student Government Association, Loyola's Sunday Cookday, Tulane University Vietnamese Association, Xavier University Asian Association, and University of New Orleans' Vietnamese American Student Association.
The event will also feature a silent auction and culinary offerings for purchase from Dong Phuong. Proceeds raised during the evening will be donated to LASO’s spotlight charity, Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, which helps prevent trafficking of children in Vietnam.
