March 18, 2011
Loyola University New Orleans Vice President and Associate Provost for Student Affairs M.L. “Cissy” Petty, Ph.D., was a key panelist at the 2011 NASPA Annual Conference held in Philadelphia, Penn., earlier this week. The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators held its conference which was themed, Educating for Lives of Purpose, March 12-16.
Petty was a member of a panel which discussed how social media engagement is providing new tools to communicate with and educate students and university communities. She is one of only a handful of senior student affairs officers around the country who are using innovative engagement through social media to directly reach out in service to students. Some of the topics addressed by the panel were:

- Why professionals/SSAO’s are using Twitter, and what it means for student affairs.
- How you can use Twitter to make your division more visible and communication friendly.
- What your “followers” want from you when you tweet.
- Tools to help you manage your tweets and followers.
