Loyola strikes gold, silver at local ADDY Awards
March 11, 2011
Loyola University New Orleans mass communication senior Alexandra Ernst was recently honored with a Gold ADDY Award, which recognizes excellence in advertising, during the New Orleans Advertising Club’s local chapter awards for the American Advertising Federation on Feb. 26 at the Louisiana Superdome. Loyola’s Office of Marketing and Communications also took home a Silver ADDY, and the department’s director, Jennifer Schlotbom, was honored as an AD Person of the Year.
Ernst won in the student category for her brochure representing Green Light New Orleans, a nonprofit organization which supports the transition to energy saving, environmental friendly light bulbs. She submitted this brochure from the advanced advertising layout and design class taught by Mass Communication Instructor Cheryl Dejoie-LaCabe.
“We are extremely proud of Alexandra and this recognition reaffirms the quality of students coming out of the School of Mass Communication,” said SMC Director Sonya Duhé, Ph.D. “It shows that Loyola students can enter the competitive field of advertising and immediately meet the standards needed in the industry.”
The American Advertising Federation Student ADDY Awards Competition is a part of the national program designed specifically for college students. Work entered at the local level can advance to regional and national judging, just like the work entered at the professional level.
Loyola won the Silver ADDY in the annual report category for its president’s annual report, “Loyola at a Glance.” The entry was submitted by Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications Terrell Fisher, Director of Creative Services Allee Parker, Publications Editor Ray Willhoft, University Photographer Harold Baquet, and Schlotbom.
