Breaux, Livingston, Tauzin headline Ed Renwick Lecture Series
Three of the most effective politicians in Louisiana history, former Senator John Breaux, former Congressmen Bob Livingston and Billy Tauzin, will converge on the Loyola University New Orleans campus to take part in the Institute of Politics' Ed Renwick Lecture Series on Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m.
Loyola remembers former trustee Alton Doody, Jr., with memorial service
Loyola University New Orleans will honor the life of former trustee, Dr. Alton Frederick Doody, Jr., during a memorial service at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Monday, March 14, at 3 p.m. Originally from New Orleans, Doody died last week in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Workshop sheds light on musician performance and practice injuries
The Center for Music and Arts Entrepreneurship at Loyola will co-sponsor a performance workshop focusing on common performance and practice injuries by musicians. The workshop takes place Friday, March 11, at 5 p.m. at the Contemporary Arts Center. The workshop will be also be webcast live at 5 p.m.
Students invited to program to help maintain healthy relationships
The Office of Student Affairs at Loyola University New Orleans presents "Making Relationships Matter," a program facilitated by David Coleman, "The Dating Doctor," on Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in Miller Hall, Room 114. It is free and open to all Loyola students.
Music composer and pianist performs at Loyola
Pianist Amir Khosrowpour will present a recital at Loyola mixing traditional piano masterpieces with newly-composed and original works March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Hall.
Support Loyola with a gift by texting
The Office of Annual Giving at Loyola University New Orleans has launched itself into the world of social media by announcing a brand new text message donation campaign to benefit scholarship opportunities for students.
Trial Advocacy Program holds inaugural fundraiser
The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law Trial Advocacy Program will hold its inaugural fundraiser, "Bowl-O-Contendere," on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Rock 'n' Bowl. Tickets are $45 for students or $65 for professionals.
Race Judicata lends a hand to Boys Hope Girls Hope
Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and Boys Hope Girls Hope are sponsoring Race Judicata, a 5K race and one-mile fun run/walk, which will be held Saturday, March 19, at Audubon Park, Shelter 10, at the Magazine Street entrance to Audubon Park. The funds raised from this race will go directly to support BHGH of New Orleans.
CFMAE hosts song and score symposium
The Center for Music and Arts Entrepreneurship, housed at Loyola University New Orleans, will sponsor a Song and Score Symposium focusing on the art of film scoring and commercial songwriting. The symposium is March 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium.
Loyola encourages students to be sustainable with competition
In an effort to make campus more eco-friendly, students at Loyola University New Orleans are encouraged to create sustainability projects to be instituted this fall. Loyola's Association of Students for Sustainability has issued a call for proposals for its Green for Green Sustainable Initiatives Competition.
Loyola gets in the rhythm with its annual jazz fest
The Loyola Jazz Festival kicks-off next week with several nights of performances and masterclasses on campus, led by New Orleans jazz trumpeter and national recording artist Nicholas Payton.
Law professor honored for activism
William P. Quigley, J.D. '77, the Janet Mary Riley Professor of Law at Loyola University New Orleans, was one of three professors in New Orleans given the 2011 Marilyn Gittell Activist Scholar Lecturer Award, the first ever given by the Urban Affairs Association.
Loyola strikes gold, silver at local ADDY Awards
Loyola University New Orleans mass communication senior Alexandra Ernst was recently honored with a Gold ADDY Award, which recognizes excellence in advertising, during the New Orleans Advertising Club's local chapter awards for the American Advertising Federation on Feb. 26 at the Louisiana Superdome.
DNP program offers convenience, affordability to working nurses
Loyola University New Orleans School of Nursing is gaining a lot of attention because of the convenience and affordability of its newly-implemented Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program.
Free talk examines the state of adult literacy
The Lindy Boggs National Center for Community Literacy at Loyola University New Orleans will present "Engaging Literacy: Research to Policy to Practice," by Stephen Reder, Ph.D. It takes place Wednesday, March 23, at 6 p.m., in Multi-Media Room 2 in Monroe Library.
Loyola Interactive Theatre Ensemble sheds light on social issues
Theatre at Loyola University New Orleans takes a LITE approach to heavy issues with a new interactive theatre group. The Loyola Department of Theatre Arts and Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Ben Saypol have developed Loyola Interactive Theatre Ensemble, which uses scripted and improvisational theatre to promote dialogue and propose solutions to a variety of global socio-economic issues.
Westerfield Fellows gather for conference
The Westerfield Fellows Program at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law presents "Emerging Legal Scholarship: The Teaching Fellows Inaugural Conference," on Friday, March 25, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the College of Law, Room 405.
