Loyola loses beloved philosophy professor Fr. Boileau
The Loyola University New Orleans community is sad to share the news that the Rev. David A. Boileau, Ph.D., professor emeritus and former chair of the philosophy department, passed away on Monday morning following a long illness.
Loyola celebrates Black History Month
Loyola University New Orleans' Black Student Union, along with the Office of Student Affairs, will celebrate Black History Month with a series of musical performances, field trips and lectures, including an appearance by motivational speaker Stacy Nadeau, model for Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty.
Baquet's photographs showcase a 'New Orleans no more'
Local photographer Harold Baquet will share photographs of a 'New Orleans no more' with his upcoming exhibit, "In the Blink of an Eye,' which opens at Loyola University New Orleans" Collins C. Diboll Art Gallery on Thursday, Feb. 3, and runs through March 24.
Languages professor awarded Fulbright Scholarship
Josefa Salmón, Ph.D., professor of languages and cultures, recently received a Fulbright grant to conduct research in Bolivia for the 2010-2011 academic year. Applications for the 2012-13 Fulbright Scholars Program will be accepted beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1.
The countdown to graduation begins
To help the Class of 2011 make their final months at the university something special to remember, the Student Government Association, the Loyola Alumni Association and the Office of Co-Curricular Programs are hosting a "100-days 'til graduation" party on Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 - 7 p.m.
Law alumni luncheon honors Ted Frois
Loyola University New Orleans College of Law alumnus and Loyola Trustee Emeritus, Theodore (Ted) Frois, J.D. '69, is the recipient of the 2011 St. Ives Award, the highest honor awarded by the College of Law Alumni Association.
Wolfpack Hall of Fame gains three new members
Wolfpack Athletics and the Loyola University New Orleans Alumni Association will welcome three new members to the Wolfpack Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. in the Danna Student Center, preceded by a reception at 7 p.m.
Loyola's Corey Gray named NAIA National Player of the Week
Loyola University New Orleans junior guard Corey Gray has been named the NAIA National Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his career-high 34 points effort in a 80-77 conference win over Faulkner University on Jan. 20.
Biever lecture focuses on indigenous forms of thinking and doing
Walter Mignolo, Ph.D., the William H. Wannamaker Professor of Literature at Duke University, will give a lecture at Loyola University New Orleans, "Decolonial Thinking and Doing in Abya Yala and Latin America," on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m.
Today is final day to vote for Loyola's best "crib"
"Life at Loyola with Kelsey and Chelsea" recently scoured the Loyola University New Orleans campus and is asking for you to pick Loyola's coolest and most unique dorm room. Show hosts Kelsey Pabst and Chelsea Fielding checked out numerous rooms on both campuses and selected the top three entrants. One will be named "Loyola's Coolest Crib" through an online vote.
VITA provides free tax help for the needy
The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law is again offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program this year to provide free tax preparation assistance for people with low to moderate incomes.

Loyola Opera presents Floyd's 'Susannah'
Loyola Opera Theatre will present a story of bigotry, desire and murder in its upcoming production of Carlisle Floyd's "Susannah." The story is loosely based on the biblical account of "Susannah and the Elders" and is considered a timeless exploration of human fallibility.
Loyola Theatre presents local adapation of 'Waiting for Godot'
The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will lend a local flair to their upcoming adaptation of Samuel Beckett's brilliant comedy "Waiting for Godot," which runs Feb. 16, 17, 18, and 19, at 8 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Lower Depths Theater.
Loyola students win international scholarships
Loyola University New Orleans students Andrew Vo and Brittany Chavez were honored last month with the 2011 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, specifically awarded to undergraduate students interested in expanding their educational horizons by studying abroad.
Biology group presents at American Fisheries Society conference
Frank Jordan, Ph.D., professor of biology, recently presented at the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society annual meeting in Tampa, Fla., held Jan. 13-16.
Keiva Council named to JBS honor roll
Loyola University New Orleans women's basketball player Keiva Council was named to the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight honor roll for the week of January 17-23.
Law professor co-authors article for national publication
Loyola University New Orleans assistant professor of law Johanna Kalb, J.D., recently co-authored an article published by the American Constitution Society, a national legal organization.
