Loyola at a Glance
LIM co-sponsors free spirituality speaker series this month
December 3, 2010
The Loyola University New Orleans Institute for Ministry will continue its free speaker series throughout the holiday season with separate presentations by Rabbi Edward Cohn of Temple Sinai and the Rev. Gail Bowman, Dillard University’s chaplain. The First Tuesdays: Spirituality in the City Speaker series is sponsored by LIM, the Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Catholic Book Store.
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, Rabbi Cohn will present “Yours, Mine and Ours: What a Friend I Have In...,” preceded by a light lunch at 12:15 p.m. The book chosen to accompany his presentation is Amy Jilly Levine's “The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 4, Reverend Bowman will be the featured speaker. Her topic, “Signs of Something,” will be accompanied by the book “The Soul of the World: A Modern Book of Hours,” by Phil Cousineau. This book is currently out of print but available through libraries and online booksellers.
Both presentations begin at 12:30 p.m in Lenes Hall, 130 Baronne Street, the parish center of the Jesuit Church. Metered parking is available on the street, as well as at the many downtown lots and garages.
The First Tuesdays series promotes dialogue and understanding on topics of spirituality. This year, leaders from New Orleans’ Jewish and Christian communities lead conversation about their spiritual traditions and address this year’s theme, “Spirituality in the City," from the perspective of life in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana.
