Violist Roberto Diaz gives all Brahms concert

Viola virtuoso Roberto Díaz will visit Loyola University New Orleans to give an all Brahms performance on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium, located in Monroe Hall. A world famous violist, Díaz holds the position of president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music and is former principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $8 for students and Loyola employees, and are available online at www.montage.loyno.edu or by calling 504-865-2074. Tickets will also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to the performance.
For the concert, Díaz, alongside pianist Kwan Yi, will perform selections by Johannes Brahms including Sonata for Viola and Piano in E flat major, Op. 120 No. 2; Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major, Op. 78, No 1; and Sonata for Viola and Piano in F minor, Op. 120, No. 1.
Díaz will also present a masterclass on Friday, Nov. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium, where he will work with Loyola’s viola students to improve their technique and musicianship. Admission to the masterclass is free and open to the public.
Díaz has appeared as an orchestral soloist and recitalist in major cities around the globe and has worked with many of the leading conductors and composers including Krzysztof Penderecki and Edison Denisov.
He was principal violist of the National Symphony under Mstislav Rostropovich, a member of the Boston Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, and a member of the Minnesota Orchestra under Sir Neville Marriner. Díaz is a member of the Díaz Trio with violinist Andrés Cárdenes and cellist Andrés Díaz. His recording of transcriptions by William Primrose with pianist Robert Koenig, on the Naxos label, was nominated for a 2006 Grammy.
