University Counseling offers help to students 24/7

October 15, 2010

Attending college can be challenging and students are often faced with a large number of decisions and possibilities affecting their personal, social, and academic choices. The challenge of dealing with these decisions can produce anxiety for most students.

The University Counseling Center exists to provide guidance and support in meeting the varied challenges of community life at Loyola. All currently enrolled Loyola undergraduate, graduate, and law students are eligible to receive counseling services offered by the UCC free of charge. Counseling work with students is based on a short-term, developmental model which emphasizes emotional growth through dealing with difficult life issues while also helping students to maintain the necessary focus on academic performance. For couples counseling, only one partner must be currently enrolled as a student at Loyola.

If an emergency occurs during regular office hours, call the UCC at 504-865-3835 or visit the office in Room 208 of the Danna Student Center. If the emergency occurs after office hours, call the University Police at 504-865-3434 and ask for the on-call-counselor. A professional staff member is available 24/7.

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of the counseling process because it is sometimes difficult or awkward to share personal feelings or sensitive issues with another person. The UCC eases the process by ensuring that whatever is shared during a counseling session remains confidential.

Appointments may be made with the office manager in the UCC, located in Room 208 of the Danna Student Center or by calling 504-865-3835.
