July 16, 2010
|Dennis C. Cuneo, J.D. '76|
Dennis C. Cuneo, J.D. ’76, Loyola University New Orleans board of trustee member and College of Law graduate, will lead the recently launched Washington, D.C., office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, a leading national labor and employment law firm. Additionally, firm colleague and fellow Loyola law graduate Edwin G. Foulke Jr., J.D. ’78, was named one of the 50 most influential environment, health and safety leaders by EHS Today, an environmental industry magazine.
Cuneo is the former senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America and most recently served as counsel with Arent Fox, LLP. Cuneo joined Fisher & Phillips as a partner. In his years at Toyota, Cuneo helped make the company one of the leading manufacturers of automobiles in the United States. For most of the past decade, Cuneo led the site selection for Toyota’s new plants and expansions in North America. In 2004, Cuneo was named by Southern Business & Development as one of the top 10 people who have influenced economic development in the South.
Cuneo is a member of the Washington, D.C., Bar and plans to reactivate his Louisiana Bar membership to establish an active presence in the firm’s New Orleans office.
“The experience and knowledge that the attorneys with Fisher & Phillips have in labor and employment law lend themselves to establishing a Washington presence,” said Cuneo. “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to bring my expertise and extensive connections into play with one of the premier law firms in the nation. Our clients will soon have a new voice in Washington.”
Cuneo chaired the California Worksite Research Committee, a joint undertaking of the State of California, UCLA, the California Manufacturers Association and organized labor, which studied high and low performance workplaces and made policy recommendations to the California Legislature.
Edwin G. Foulke is a partner out of the Atlanta office where he co-chairs the firm’s Workplace Safety and Catastrophe Management Practice Group. Foulke is also the former assistant secretary of labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Foulke recently authored “The Workplace Safety and Health Compliance Manual,” the essential guide to understanding OSHA standards. The comprehensive book covers topics such as record-keeping requirements, inspections, citations and civil penalties and affirmative defenses.
“I’m grateful that EHS Today recognizes my record of helping companies develop comprehensive health and safety programs that comply with OSHA standards,” said Foulke. “For more than 30 years I’ve dedicated my career to helping reduce risk in the workplace.”
During Foulke’s tenure at OSHA, workplace injury, illness and fatality rates dropped to their lowest levels in recorded history. In 2008, Occupational Hazards magazine also named him to the "50 Most Influential Environmental, Health and Safety Leaders." He is a member of the Employee Health Safety and Security Special Expertise Panel for the National Society for Human Resource Management.
