Cross country and track signs two
July 9, 2010
Loyola University New Orleans cross country and track head coach Andy Canegitta announced the signing of a pair of runners for the men’s team, adding Lonterio DeVaull and Jonathan Moody to his 2010 recruiting class.
DeVaull joins Loyola after attending Baton Rouge High School where he ran both cross country and track. A four-time team captain, DeVaull qualified for the Class 5A indoor state meet in the 4x800 meter relay in all four years. In his junior and senior seasons, he qualified for the indoor 800 meter and the 4x400 meter as well. Also as a senior, DuVaull made the 5A regionals in the 800 meter in outdoor track.
“Lonterio is a great athlete with a lot of upside,” said Coach Canegitta. “He is a tough athlete and will push the others on the team. He will make an immediate impact in cross country and track.”
DeVaull’s personal best times include a 23.3 in the 200 meter, a 51.0 in the 400, and a 2:01 in the 800. In the three-mile, he set his personal best with a time of 17:02. At Loyola, he plans to major in business/accounting.
Jonathan Moody, a native of New Orleans, prepped at St. Augustine High School where he placed fourth in the Region 3-5A Championship in javelin as a senior. Also for javelin, he claimed the District 10-5A Championship in his senior year.
“Jonathan is another great addition to the team,” stated Canegitta. “He is a great athlete who can throw the javelin and can contribute in the sprinting events and relays.”
His personal best throw in the javelin is 170-6 feet, which is just short of the NAIA Nationals qualifying mark of 190 feet. Moody also ran sprints, recording a personal best 22.0 in the 200 meter and a 52.0 in the 400.
Moody will study art at Loyola.
