Loyola cross country signs Elizabeth Gienger
May 14, 2010
Loyola University New Orleans cross country and track head coach Andy Canegitta announced the signing of Elizabeth Gienger from Fairview, Texas.
Gienger joins Loyola after attending Lovejoy High where her cross country team placed second at state during her senior season. Also in her senior year, the Leopards won district with a perfect score of 15 and placed second at regionals.
A four year letter winner in both cross country and track, she was a two-time team captain of the cross country team.
As a junior, she received the Girls Distance Award and in her freshman and sophomore years she garnered the Running Leopard Award. Her personal bests include a 12:38 in the 3200 meter, 5:53 in the 1600 meter, and a 22:49 in the 5K.
“Elizabeth is another great addition in this year recruiting class,” said Coach Canegitta. “She will be an immediate impact academically and athletically. Throughout her athletic career she has continually improved her times at the high school level and I look for her to continue that trend at Loyola.”
In the classroom, Gienger was a member of the National Honor Society in her junior and senior years. She was also a member of the Lovejoy Academic Society as a sophomore and the National Junior Honor Society in ninth grade.
