Hollygrove Market offers Loyola community farm-fresh produce
April 16, 2010
Loyola Dining Services and University Ministry have partnered with Hollygrove Market & Farm to provide the Loyola community with fresh produce each week.
The market comes to campus every Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers a selection of local fruits and vegetables for sale at $20 per box. It is located in front of the Danna Student Center.
Hollygrove’s main market is located at 8301 Olive Street and is open on Tuesdays from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It also has another satellite market at St. Anna’s Episcopal Church at 1313 Esplanade Avenue which is open on Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m.
In addition to its markets, Hollygrove operates an urban farm containing farm plots, demonstration beds, and community gardens. The mission of the farm is to provide information and training to backyard gardeners interested in growing organic fruits, herbs, and vegetables.
Since 2008, Hollygrove Market & Farm has worked to increase access of fresh, local produce to Hollygrove and the surrounding area. Through its produce market, community gardens and mentor farmers, the group provides residents with an affordable option for fresh, local produce and resources and space to cultivate their knowledge in growing healthy food.
