Loyola hosts AJCU Marketing Communications Leadership Summit

April 16, 2010

On April 8 and 9, Loyola University New Orleans hosted the annual AJCU Marketing and Communications Summit, bringing communication leaders from 19 Jesuit colleges and universities to the Big Easy.

Marketing and communication leaders within the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities hold the two-day conference each year to discuss best practices, current issues and furthering the Jesuit mission through higher education marketing and communications efforts. AJCU President the Rev. Charles Currie, S.J., attended the event and discussed key issues facing the Church today and how they may impact AJCU institutions.

The Rev. Gerald Fagin, S.J., author of “Putting on the Heart of Christ: How the Spiritual Exercises Invite Us to a Virtuous Life,” was also a guest speaker and explored the strengths and opportunities that a Jesuit mission provides a university and how to best communicate those points to audiences. Other topics of discussion included updates from each AJCU institution in attendance, alumni engagement, web communications, social media strategies and an overview of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight initiative.

In addition to the talks, attendees took a Post-Katrina reconstruction tour led by Bob Thomas, Ph.D., Loyola’s director of the Center for Environmental Communications, and were treated to some of New Orleans’ finest culinary offerings during outings to Franky and Johnny’s and Antoine’s Restaurant.

Terrell Fisher, Loyola’s associate vice president for Marketing and Communications, and ACJU Director of Communications Melissa Collins Di Leonardo, were the summit organizers. Supporting Loyola staffers included Jennifer Schlotbom, assistant director for Marketing and Communications, and Angela Vachetta Turnbull, the university’s special events coordinator.
