The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team completed the two-game series sweep of the National Collegiate Athletic Association-III Blackburn College with a 17-0 victory on March 10 at Segnette Field.

Loyola (7-10) scored five in the first, one in the second and had their second straight seven-run fourth inning. The Wolfpack added four in the fifth before the game was called due to lightning and rain.

Carl Labit (1-1) threw all five innings to pick up the win for the ‘Pack. He gave up three hits while striking out four.

Cody Unser (0-1) suffered the loss for the Beavers, giving up nine earned on 12 hits. Blackburn (1-6) had three players with one hit each.

In the first, Templet brought in the first two runs for Loyola on a single. Duplantis followed suit with a two-run single, and a wild pitch made the score 5-0 Loyola.

The Wolfpack escaped the second inning after Blackburn loaded the bases, then Templet added another run in Loyola’s half with a two-out double.

Templet started the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single. Following a 2-run double by May, Taylor Domengeaux plated two with a single. With two runners on, McMinn then laced his third home run of the season to make the score 13-0.

Loyola tacked on four in the final inning to take the game 17-0.

Loyola returns to Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at LSU-Shreveport. Tonight’s opener is set for 6 p.m.
