Loyola's Trenese Smith named finalist for All-American

Trenese Smith, a senior guard/forward for the Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team, was recently named one of 29 finalists for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
Smith, a native of LaPlace, La., led the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in scoring this season with 17.1 points per game which ranked 20th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. She was named All-GCAC for the fourth time and closes out her career as the Wolfpack’s all-time leading scorer with 2,439 points.
The 29 finalists, who are voted upon by member coaches in each of the six WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
The 2010 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team for NAIA will be announced at the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship Banquet on March 16, 2010, at the Jackson Civic Center in Jackson, Tenn.
Also, Keiva Council, a sophomore guard from Houston, Texas, was named All-GCAC after becoming Loyola’s second best scorer at 12.4 points per game. Council also directed the Wolfpack offense, dishing out 3.9 assists per outing, ranking second in conference.
Council scored a career-best 29 points in a win over cross-town rival SUNO. In the game, Council teamed up with Smith for 52 points to lead a late comeback over the Lady Knights.
