The Loyola University New Orleans Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Wellness and the Office of Institutional Advancement will hold a special reception honoring former baseball coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann at the Rock n’ Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 28. The event starts at 3 p.m. It is open to the public.
The reception officially kicks off efforts to fund the Coach Louis “Rags” Scheuermann Scholarship honoring the Loyola legend. Starting in 1957, Scheuermann was the skipper of the Wolfpack baseball team for 15 years, amassing 234 victories and finishing with an impressive .649 overall winning percentage.
Loyola hopes, with the help of Rags’ team of supporters, to raise $60,000 to endow the scholarship that will aid funding for student-athletes in the Wolfpack baseball program.
The cost of the event is $10 per person and includes crawfish étouffée, wine, beer and soft drinks. There will also be a special book signing of “Baseball in New Orleans” by S. Derby Gisclair with all proceeds going to the scholarship fund.
