Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Week for Peace events scheduled for next week

January 15, 2010

The 24th Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Week for Peace is scheduled for Monday through Friday, Jan. 18 −22, 2010. The events, which include a day of community service and a convocation, are sponsored by Loyola, Dillard, Tulane and Xavier Universities.

Roland S. Martin, award-winning journalist, columnist and author, will be the keynote speaker at the MLK Convocation on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. His lecture takes place in McAlister Auditorium on Tulane University’s campus. A welcoming reception and booksigning precedes the lecture at 5:30 p.m., in the Qatar Ballroom of the Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane.

A nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate, Martin is the author of “Listening to the Spirit Within: 50 Perspectives on Faith,” and “Speak, Brother! A Black Man's View of America.” He is also a commentator for TV One Cable Network and host of "Washington Watch with Roland Martin," a one-hour Sunday morning news show. Martin is a CNN Analyst, appearing on a variety of shows, including “Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull,” “The Situation Room,” “Anderson Cooper 360,” and many others. In October 2008, he joined the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” as senior analyst.

The MLK Week for Peace is a collaborative celebration among the four major private universities in New Orleans, which each year host a week-long series of events to commemorate, celebrate and reflect on the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his vision of collective work and social justice.
