Theatre arts professor directs classic holiday tale at Rivertown Repertory Theatre
December 11, 2009
Director C. Patrick Gendusa, visiting assistant professor of theatre arts at Loyola University New Orleans, and Rivertown Repertory Theatre bring to the stage the beloved and timeless holiday classic of love and sacrifice, “The Velveteen Rabbit.” The play chronicles the story of the Velveteen Rabbit, given to a young boy as a Christmas present.
“The Velveteen Rabbit” runs Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Rivertown Repertory Theatre, at 325 Minor Street, in Kenner, La. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for children and $10 for Loyola students.
As the most modest toy in the nursery, the Velveteen Rabbit earns the love of a young boy and learns the joy and pain of becoming real. Margery Williams’ classic book springs magically to life in this enchanting musical about love, loss and self-esteem, with music by Jimmy Roberts, the composer of the smash Off-Broadway revue “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”
The talented cast includes Loyola theatre arts alumni Monica Harris as the Toy Soldier and Colby LeMaster as Ben, and Loyola theatre arts student Joshua Eichhorn as Steve. Other cast members include Miki Byrne as the Velveteen Rabbit and Janell Wattigny as the Princess Doll.
