Loyola psychology professor attends APA conference

Janet R. Matthews, Ph.D., professor of psychology, recently returned from the American Psychological Association's Education Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., where she was elected to chair the association’s board of educational affairs. This 12-person elected body considers issues of psychology education from pre-college through continuing professional education. Her term as chair will begin Jan. 1, 2010.
The invitation-only conference addressed issues related to “Preparing Tomorrow's Health Workforce.” The experience included symposia presented by national leaders from diverse disciplines including psychology, physical therapy, veterinary medicine, audiology-speech pathology and medical informataics. It also included advocacy training and visits to congressional offices.
While there, Matthews met with staff members in the offices of Louisiana Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter and Congressman Steve Scalise.
