October 16, 2009

The Sporting News named Loyola University New Orleans’ Ryan Brock NAIA Pre-Season All-American Honorable Mention and tapped the Wolfpack as a “possible breakthrough” team for 2009-10.

Brock, a junior forward from New Orleans, La., was Loyola’s top scorer in 2008-09, averaging 19.9 points. Brock scored 578 points for the year, which ranked fifth at Loyola for a single season. Along with being named All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and GCAC Newcomer of the Year, Brock also received an all-American honorable mention and was named second team all-Louisiana. The Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches named Brock the Louisiana Small College Player of the Year.

Loyola is coming off its second straight winning season after going 19-11 in 2008-09. The 19 victories are the most in 50 years for the men’s basketball program. The Wolfpack also went 12-6 in the GCAC, a team best since joining the conference.

Loyola, picked third in the GCAC’s pre-season coaches’ poll, opens the 2009-10 campaign on Oct. 30 against Carver Bible College of Atlanta, Ga., in the Den. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
