Montage brings a week of ensembles to Loyola

Beginning this weekend, the College of Music and Fine Arts Montage Series at Loyola University New Orleans will offer a selection of events by groups including the Loyola Symphony Orchestra, the Crescent City Wind Symphony and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Ensemble.
The Loyola Symphony Orchestra will present a concert on Saturday, Oct. 3, that will feature music by Bach, Shostakovich and Copland. Directed by Dr. Jean Montès, the free concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Hall, in the Communications/Music Complex.

Prior to the orchestra concert, the Loyola Alumni Association will host a free wine and cheese reception for Loyola alumni at 6 p.m., in the foyer outside of Roussel Hall. All Loyola alumni are invited to attend.
The Crescent City Wind Symphony, a community group serving the greater New Orleans area directed by Dr. Joseph Hebert, professor of music, will perform a free concert of symphonic band standards and favorites on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m., in Roussel Hall.
The Jazz Underground Series will continue next week with a performance by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Ensemble featuring Monk students Victor Gould, piano; Godwin Louis, alto saxophone; Matt Marantz, tenor saxophone; Nicholas Falk, drums; Hogyu Hwang, bass; and Billy Buss, trumpet.
The group will perform fresh renditions of jazz standards Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m., in Satchmo’s Jazz Café, located on the lower level of the Danna Student Center. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for non-Loyola students and Loyola faculty and staff. Loyola students are admitted free.
