Loyola University New Orleans’ J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library was recently ranked fifth place in The Princeton Review’s “2010 Best 371 Colleges.” The library, which took seventh place in 2009, shares a top-five ranking with Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Duke Universities.
Loyola celebrated the library’s 10th anniversary last January. It was built at a cost of $20 million, after a successful capital campaign.
“The Monroe Library’s continued ranking among the top 10 college libraries in the country is a testimony to the excellence of its faculty and staff who are committed to customer service and providing the most up-to-date technology and resources to its users,” said Mary Lee Sweat, dean of libraries.
Loyola also ranked sixth place for “Easiest Campus to Get Around” and 11th place for “Best Town-Gown Relations.”
“2010 Best 371 Colleges” is compiled from surveys of 122,000 students over the 2008-09 school year. Each student is queried on his school’s academics, administration, campus life and student body.
“Each of our 371 ‘best’ colleges offers great academics,” said Robert Franek, author of the book and vice president and publisher of The Princeton Review. “We tally 62 ranking lists based how students at these schools rated their campus experiences, plus ratings based on institutional data we collect on issues important to applicants. It’s all about the fit.”
