Loyola alumna chosen to co-host 'Live with Regis and Kelly'

July 31, 2009

Loyola University New Orleans alumna and WWL-TV anchorwoman Lucy Bustamante was chosen to co-host "Live with Regis and Kelly" during its "From Local to 'Live!' Co-host for a Day" promotion.

Bustamante was one of five female broadcasters from the show's affiliates selected by viewers to share the stage with Regis Philbin during the week of August 17-21. Bustamante kicks off the week with her turn in the chair on Monday, August 17, at 9 a.m.

A 2002 mass communication graduate, Bustamante joined WWL-TV in 2004. She reports and anchors the station's 10 p.m. newscast and a 9 p.m. newscast on WUPL-TV.

Bustamante said she is surprised and grateful to be chosen for the promotion.

"Believe it or not, I found out through a relative on Facebook who watched the show on the East Coast," Bustamante said. "I feel so blessed that people would go through the hassle of registering online just to vote."

"There is definitely a responsibility to represent New Orleans well," she said. "I'm going to have a blast with it and bring Regis a few treats from the city, and I’m taking suggestions from viewers too!"
