Institute for Ministry hosts summer programs for church and school professionals

The Loyola Institute for Ministry is planning four summer workshops to educate church and school leaders. The courses take place on Loyola’s main campus and are as follows:

Institute for Catholic School Leadership

June 15-18

Led by LIM and the Archdiocese of New Orleans Office of Catholic Schools, the institute provides opportunities for networking and professional development for new and veteran members of Catholic school leadership teams and features separate courses identified as important by Catholic professionals. Each participant may select one course to study from a list including Mission and Identity; Teacher Formation; Administration; Curriculum Leadership; Development/Marketing/Public Relations; and Finance.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., June 15, and classes take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Tuition is $850 and includes continental breakfast each day, coffee breaks and lunch.

Catechetical Leadership

June 25-July 8

LIM hosts the course, which examines best practices in teaching key documents on Christian doctrine, such as those of Pope John Paul II, the "National Directory of Catechesis," and others. It also looks at the central role of the family and parish for catechesis and the essential skills of a catechetical leader, while giving students planning tools to develop catechetical programs, particularly in the parish. The course, which offers three graduate credits or a certificate, is led by Carole Eipers, vice president and executive director of catechesis for William H. Sadlier, Inc., a leading publisher of Catholic learning materials, and former head of catechesis for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Loyola is also offering two courses during the summer session in parish life and administration, which can be taken on their own, for a certificate in parish life and administration or for graduate and continuing education credit.

The Dynamic Parish Today

June 30-July 2

Presented by director and co-director, respectively, of the Parish Evaluation Project, the Rev. Thomas Sweetser, S.J., and Peg Bishop, this course encourages participants to investigate traditional and emerging models of church and parish life and a variety of critical pastoral ministry issues that influence church life and parish ministry leaders today.

Stewardship and Financial Management

July 6-10

Brian Reynolds, chancellor and chief administrative officer of the Archdiocese of Louisville will lead this course, focusing on research and best practices in developing a stewardship plan for a parish church. Reynolds will give particular focus to the nature of Christian stewardship, strategic planning, parish fundraising and principles of financial management.
